What is counselling and what to expect?

Counselling is about having a safe and confidential space that is yours, where you can feel seen and heard. Simply having this space to talk can be invaluable when dealing with emotional distress. Through this process you can begin to understand how experiences from your past can leave you with beliefs and behavioural patterns which may at times keep you stuck and lead to further suffering. In recognising this I can support you to find tools to challenge these beliefs and replace them with new ways of thinking and behaviours which will foster positive relationships and support growth and development.

During our first session together we would meet up at an agreed time at my Practice in either Old Woking or Weybridge. This would be a chance for us both to see how we feel about working together and whether we would be a good fit. It is important that you feel comfortable with any counsellor you choose. During this session we would also go through an assessment. This would involve me asking you some questions about whats been going on in your life right now, some background information and what you want from counselling, so we can decide together if I am the right therapist for you. Should you feel I'm not the right fit we could discuss onward referral options.

In the instance that we agree to do a Zoom based session we would initially have a talk on the phone or over email so I could explain how this would work. The session itself would follow the same process as face to face work and I would email you any relevant paper work following the session.

Sessions last approximately 50 minutes and are charged at a rate of £75 an hour. Concessions are available in special circumstances such as due to financial issues. This would be discussed in the initial contracting. I am also registered with a number of insurance providers including AXA, AVIVA BUPA and WPA.
